How to Create a Free QR Code Menu for Your Restaurant

A QR code menu is faster to update, cheaper to print, and easier to manage than paper menus. Here's how to set one up for your restaurant at no cost.

How to Create a Free QR Code Menu for Your Restaurant

A QR code menu costs nothing to create and takes about ten minutes to set up. Once it's live, you can update your prices and dishes from your phone in seconds. Here's how to do it.

Set Up Your Digital Menu on Pinify

Go to pinify.net and create a free account. From your dashboard, create a new Food Menu page. Add your menu categories first, things like Starters, Mains, Drinks, and Desserts. Then add each item with its name, description, and price.

Good descriptions sell dishes. "Slow-cooked lamb shoulder, roasted tomatoes, fresh mint" is better than "lamb dish." A line or two is all you need.

If you have item photos, add them. Customers who see photos of a dish order it more often than customers who just read the name.

Generate Your QR Code

Once your menu is live, Pinify gives you a unique URL for your menu page. You can use any free QR code generator, such as qr-code-generator.com, to turn that URL into a QR code image. Download it as a PNG file.

Make the QR code at least 2.5 cm × 2.5 cm when printed. Smaller than that and phones struggle to scan it reliably.

Print and Place Your QR Codes

Print your QR code on table tent cards, laminated inserts, or stickers. Place one on every table and at the counter. You can also put it on your front door so people know before they sit down that you have a digital menu.

Test every printed QR code with two or three different phones before you send them out to tables. Lighting and print quality both affect how well they scan.

Update Your Menu Anytime

This is the big advantage of a digital menu. When a dish sells out, you can hide it. When you add a seasonal special, it appears on every table instantly. No reprinting, no awkward "we're out of that" conversations.

Log into Pinify, make your change, and it's live in seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do customers need an app to scan the QR code?

No. Every modern iPhone and Android phone can scan a QR code using the built-in camera app. Customers just point their camera at the code and tap the notification that appears.

Can I keep prices off the QR menu and only show dish names?

Yes. You can control what appears on each menu item. If you prefer not to show prices, just leave that field blank.

What if my internet goes down during service?

If your connection drops, customers can't load the menu. It's a good idea to keep a few printed backup menus for emergencies.

Can I have separate menus for lunch and dinner?

Yes. You can create multiple menu pages on Pinify and use a different QR code for each one, or switch the URL your QR code points to.

Is there a limit to how many items I can add?

No. You can add as many categories and items as you need at no extra cost.
